Blackfriar Polyurethane Floor Varnish provides your floors with a finish that is attractive, durable, and easy-to-clean by sealing the surface against dirt. Blackfriar Polyurethane Floor Varnish can be used on most floor surfaces, including chipboard, plywood, hardboard, parquet and cement.
Preparation
Ensure surface to be varnished is clean, dry, sound and free from wax, oil or any other contamination. If wax has been used clean the surface thoroughly with white spirit prior to sanding. Bare wood should be sanded to a smooth surface, always working with the grain. Sound, previously varnished surfaces should be lightly sanded to provide a key. Existing varnished surfaces which are unsound or in poor condition can be stripped back to bare timber with Blackfriar Professional Paint and Varnish Remover.
Application
Stir thoroughly with a broad stirrer prior to use. The product may be applied by brush or roller. If applying by brush, apply evenly using light strokes following the grain of the wood. If rollering, use a short nap mohair roller. For best results 3 coats are recommended on new wood and 2 coats on previously varnished surfaces. Prior to application of the final coat or if the overcoating time is exceeded lightly abrade with fine glass paper working with the grain and remove dust.
Thinning
Not required.
Limitations
Not suitable for use on plastic type materials, eg. imitation wood. Before applying varnish we recommend a trial application on an inconspicuous area of the floor. Once dried check adhesion with sticky tape. This is essential particularly when applying to cork tiles, prefinished tiles or laminate flooring.
Drying Time
Touch dry in 4 - 6 hours. Recoat after 16 hours and within 3 days. Drying times are based on an ambient temperature of 20°C and 50% relative humidity. Lower temperatures or higher humidity will prolong the drying and overcoating times.
Clean Up
Remove as much product as possible from application equipment before washing with white spirit. Do not empty into drains or water courses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings.
Storage
Store in a dry, safe place. Do not store in environments where extreme temperatures may occur. Keep within 5-30°C. Do not store in direct sunlight.
