    Question:

Will this stuff be suitable for priming teak bathroom furniture? It needs to be colourless or clear. I will then apply Syntilor Kitchen & Bathroom varnish on top. I had found Anova bois Anti-Tanins Primer PAT400, but they are French and shipping is too much to the UK.

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Rubio Monocoat Tannin Primer is a preparation product to be used before oiling.

It reduces the amount of time it takes tannic acid to react with moisture in the wood which leaves black marks ,but will not prevent it completely as it's a naturally occurring process and there isn't a product that can stop it completely, it just slows it down.

We would then recommend the application of Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C .

This is perfect for bathrooms as it's heat and water resistant.

Hi you choose to use another topcoat instead we would recommend to test on a small area for compatibility and adhesion prior to full application.

    Question:

Hello Can the tannin primer be used on kitchen worktops?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

This product is not food safe as it has ingredients that help prevent tannin coming out of wood.

It is predominantly water based with enzymes in that will block tannic acid from reacting when the surface comes into contact with water.

Essentially it is used to clean and prep the wood prior to oiling and as such will evaporate as it dries.

You would then put a Rubio oil over the top which of course is food safe such as Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C.
