Blackfriar Matt Black Paint is perfect if you need a dead black matt surface. Its non-reflective finish makes it ideal for all interior surfaces such as old beams, panelling, decorative ironwork, stage scenery and darkrooms. It can be used on wood and metal.
Preparation
Ensure surface to be coated is clean, dry, sound and free from wax, grease or any other contamination. Previously painted surfaces in sound condition should be abraded and degreased prior to direct application of Blackfriar Matt Black Paint. Remove any rust and abrade back to a clean bright surface before priming with the appropriate Blackfriar Metal Primer. New or other bare surfaces should be primed with the appropriate Blackfriar primer.
Application
Stir thoroughly prior to use with a broad stirrer. The product may be applied by brush, roller or spray. Two coats are recommended to give the best protection.
Thinning
Not recommended.
Limitations
Do not use under cold (less than 5°C), damp or humid conditions. Matt paints are not as durable as satin/gloss paints when used externally. We recommend that Blackfriar Matt Black Paint is only used on small areas externally. For larger areas we would strongly recommend the use of Blackfriar Satin Black Paint. Not suitable for direct application to galvanised metal, use Blackfriar MultiSurface Primer first.
Drying Time
Hard dry in 16 hours. Recoat after 16 hours and within 3 days. Drying times are based on an ambient temperature of 20°C and 50% relative humidity. Lower temperatures or higher humidity will prolong the drying and overcoating times.
Clean Up
Remove as much product as possible from application equipment before washing with white spirit. Do not empty into drains or water courses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings.
Storage
Store in a dry, safe place. Do not store in environments where extreme temperatures may occur. Keep within 5-30°C. Do not store in direct sunlight.
