Blackfriar Quick Drying Floor Varnish has been specially formulated to protect the floors in your home with an attractive, long-lasting scratchresistant finish. The satin finish provides additional slipresistance. The varnish dries quickly so you could transform your floors in just one day. Easy to clean and perfect for all wooden flooring.
Ensure surface to be varnished is clean, dry, sound and free from wax, oil or any other contamination. If wax has been used clean the surface thoroughly with white spirit prior to sanding. Bare wood should be sanded to a smooth surface, always working with the grain. Sound, previously varnished surfaces should be lightly sanded to provide a key. Existing varnished surfaces which are unsound or in poor condition can be stripped back to bare timber with Blackfriar Professional Paint and Varnish Remover.
Stir thoroughly prior to use. The product may be applied by brush or roller. If applying by brush, apply evenly using light strokes following the grain of the wood. If rollering, use a short nap mohair roller. For best results 3 coats are recommended on new wood and 2 coats on previously varnished surfaces. Prior to application of the final coat or if the overcoating time is exceeded lightly abrade with fine glass paper working with the grain and remove dust. The varnish will appear cloudy when wet but will quickly dry to a clear finish. When applying to new or bare wood, thin the first coat with up to 10% water
Not suitable for use on plastic type materials, eg. imitation wood. If applying varnish to cork tiles, prefinished tiles or laminate flooring we recommend a trial application on an inconspicuous area of the floor. Once dried check adhesion by scratching firmly with a finger nail. New concrete should be allowed to dry for at least 6 months before varnishing. Do not use under cold (less than 10°C), damp or humid conditions. Do not wash the varnished surface for at least 3 days after application. If water is spilled on it during this period gently wipe off with a soft dry cloth.
Touch dry in 1 hour. Recoat after 4 hours and within 3 days. Drying times are based on ambient temperature of 20°C and 50% humidity. Lower temperatures and higher humidity levels will prolong drying and overcoating times.
Remove as much paint as possible from equipment before cleaning. Clean with warm water, rinse and dry thoroughly.
Store in a dry, safe place. Do not store in environments where extreme temperatures may occur. Keep within 5-30°C. Do not store in direct sunlight.

I am looking for a tough wood floor finish where the floor has been sealed with an oil based polyurethane varnish previously. It has to stand up to scratching and scuffing by dogs and wheelchair. Will this be tougher than the other polyurethane products?
Blackfriar Quick Drying Floor Varnish would have similar durability to the Polyurethane floor varnish. If the floor boards are pine softwood it would be best to stick with the current polyurethane varnish. Abrade the surface first with a fine grade of sandpaper, wash down well to remove all contamination then apply 2 coats. If the floor boards are oak or a similar hardwood, the toughest varnish we do is the Blackfriar Heavy Duty Varnish. This is not suitable for softwoods, the cured varnish is too brittle and is likely to craze over time due to expansion and contraction of the softwood.
