For best results, ensure surface is clean and free from wax or oil. If was has been used, clean the surface thoroughly with white spirit. We recommend that bare wood, previously painted or varnished surfaces should be sanded before painting. Ensure new concrete is sound, fully cured and free from laitance.

Apply when temperature is between 10°C and 30°C. Stir thoroughly prior to use. The product may be applied by brush, apply evenly following the grain of the wood. If rollering, use a short nap mohair roller. For either method of application, two coats are recommended.

Up to 14m² per litre/per coat. Coverage may vary depending upon method and rate of application and porosity of the surface.

I have an ugly scratched bamboo bedroom floor. Could I use this product? Hope so as there seems to be no other product.

Anne from Hundon (UK) - 19/01/17

Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Floor Paint will be worth a try. A bedroom floor is likely to be a low wear situation compared to other household rooms and therefore the paint should give a good level of performance.

The bamboo may have some kind of treatment on so a test would be advisable.
A light sand and a good wipe down to remove dust and any contamination would be the recommended preparation. Coat up a small test area and allow to cure for a few days then check the adhesion using some masking tape. If the paint peels off with the masking tape then more sanding will be required to remove surface treatments completely.

I understand the paint is of minimal VOC, but is ventilation still necessary and if so how much/for how long please? My consideration is that we have a young child in the house. WE have 60m2 to paint. Thanks.

Tim from London (UK) - 17/01/17

You can download the Material Safety Data Sheet from the 'DATASHEETS' tab on the product page. There are no known hazardous ingredients in the paint so it is safe to use in a general household environment provided normal safety precautions are followed. Good ventilation helps the paint to dry and disperses any odours from the paint. Keep children away during the painting process.

How many coats are recommended for this?

Gillian from Bath (England) - 04/08/16

Two coats are recommended. The product should be touch dry after 1 hour and you can recoat it after 4 hours. After the final coat, leave 24 hours before using the floor.

Thank you for answering my previous question, but could you also tell me what the coverage per litre is, as I can not find this information on the page. Kind regards. Corrinne

Corrinne from Worcester (UK) - 04/08/16

14m² per litre/per coat.

I want to paint over old painted floorboards in the utility room which is used quite a lot (people in and out the back door), would Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Floor Paint be up to the wear or can you recommend something else that has a matt/semi finish. Thank you.

Corrinne from Worcester (UK) - 02/08/16

Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Floor Paint would be more than capable of dealing with this sort of environment and level of traffic.

Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Floor PaintDo you have to seal the floor after painting? I want to paint over wooden floor tiles in my kitchen and wasn't sure how hard wearing the finish would be.Kind regards, Sarah

Sarah from Lincolnshire (UK) - 16/04/16

The product is actually very hard wearing despite its name, more durable than some of our professional acrylic floor paints we offer. No clear lacquer is required.

The chalky finish floor paint can be washed down as normal, however in kitchen you may get splashes of fats and oils around the cooker, these should be wiped up promptly as they may affect the paint if left on for longer periods.

Can I use rustoleum chalky finish floor paint directly on old pine floorboards or do I need to prime, esp knots?

Joy from London (London) - 09/03/16

You don't need to prime the whole floor but you would need to seal the knots first. Zinsser B-I-N would be better than a knotting product, being white it will be easier to get good coverage with the floor paint over the treated areas.
