Patio Stains

Refresh patio slabs with the use of a patio paving stain, aligning and deepening the colour of paving stones and block paving for a uniform look and finish to match or contrast other colour schemes in your outdoor areas. Quicker, more cost effective on the pocket, and much less work than replacing the stones themselves, old and tired patio slabs can simply be stained after cleaning to completely rejuvenate their appearance. Similar to patio paints, our patio paving stains are great for consumers and commercial applicators alike, renovating outdoors areas for pubs, restaurants and cafes, lunch areas for offices and schools, universities and colleges, block paving driveways, and many more.

Patio Stains

Patio stains are durable, deep-penetrating coatings formulated to protect and enhance outdoor surfaces like concrete, stone, and brick. Unlike surface-level paints, these stains absorb into the substrate, forming a breathable, long-lasting finish that resists moisture, UV rays, and foot traffic. Whether you're working on domestic patios or commercial outdoor walkways, patio stains offer a low-maintenance solution that revitalises tired paving and enhances slip resistance. For more robust areas such as garages or utility spaces, you may prefer our heavy-duty floor paints, designed for added abrasion resistance.

These coatings are particularly effective on porous surfaces, including old concrete and block paving. Their semi-transparent finish highlights the natural grain or texture of the substrate while adding colour depth and weather protection. When applied to worn or stained concrete, patio stains can dramatically improve kerbside appeal and reduce ongoing maintenance costs. For larger outdoor spaces or structural concrete surfaces, we recommend pairing with appropriate concrete floor paints to ensure long-term resilience. Where joint protection or weed prevention is also a concern, consider finishing with one of our block paving sealers to lock in performance and preserve a clean, uniform finish.

Patio Stain FAQs

Can patio stains be used over previously sealed surfaces?

Only if the seal allows for absorption - most patio stains require a porous surface to penetrate effectively. Stripping or etching may be needed beforehand.

How long do patio stains take to dry?

In mild, dry conditions, most stains will dry within 24 hours. Cooler or damp weather can extend this, so always consult the product datasheet before starting.

Are patio stains suitable for walkways and high-traffic areas?

Yes, they’re ideal for paths, driveways, and public access areas. Choose a formulation with added slip resistance for best safety performance.

How often should I reapply patio stain?

Every 3–5 years is typical, depending on weather exposure and footfall. In shaded or moss-prone areas, annual cleaning and inspection are recommended.

Can I match patio stain colours to existing paving or decor?

Many stains can be tinted for a custom finish. Always carry out a small test patch to confirm colour compatibility before full application.
