Primers & Reinforcement
To ensure strength, optimal waterproof properties and life expectancy up to 25 years, the use of a roof primer or roof reinforcement fleeces might be required before applying your roof paint. Whether you are dealing with a new roof or the renovation of an older roof, the right products for your project are essential. We stock a wide range of primers and reinforcement fleeces to ensure you can be equipped with all you will need for your roofing projects.
Flashing and roof primers are designed to provide a base for bituminous topcoats and roof sealants to adhere to on dusty and porous surfaces, promoting higher waterproofing capabilities and are an integral part of any roof coating installation. Roof primers are also critical parts of successful repair and renovation work, including the addition of skylights, solar-panels, etc. on previously waterproofed roofs.
Britannia Aquashield Primer is ideal for porous roofs, and roofs which may break into smaller pieces if pressure is applied, such as concerete, asbestos cladding, sheeting and guttering. Will also prime fibre cement corrugated sheet. Advantages Cures in 1 day Waterproofs instantly Solvent-based 2-year shelf life
Some environments require a roof to be primed and a topcoat applied in one day. The Britannia Universal QD Primer Sealer allows this to be a reality. As an effective and quick-drying primer, your time-critical project is turned into a reality. Suitable For EPDM PVC TPO roofs Plastisol covered membranes
Primer for the Durashield Waterproofing System allowing for priming and topcoat applied in one day. Excellent for felted surfaces, asbestos cement, concrete, weathered asphalt, timber decks, metal and plastisol, among others. Advantages Rubber solvent-based primer Penetrates porous substrates Clear in colour
A polyester-based mesh that can be used to reinforce roofs which have cracks or small gaps, to allow full reinforcement when applying the Britannia Durashield Waterproof System. Advantages Use on roof fixings, asbestos gutters and sheeting, rooflights, metal, bituminous felts/coatings, wood and many more. Used as a reinforcement for...
Rust-Oleum Mathys Primer 44 HS has a large fixation capacity for stabilising loose particles and improving the adherence of subsequent topcoats. Features and Benefits Unsaponifiable Good UV resistance Excellent fixation on roofs Very flexible Chlorinated rubber technology, solvent-based Quickly water-resistant (1 hour after...
Gaco Roof Tape is a self-adhesive seam tape made of cross linked polymers of butyl and E.P.D.M. rubber, coated on fleece backing. Gaco Roof Tape maintains its elasticity and splice integrity when subjected to severe ultraviolet rays, thermal shock, ponding water, and extremely low temperatures.
Gaco Liquid Roof Tape is a thick, high-build, rubber-like liquid comprised of 100% silicone and microfibers. The unique properties allow it to replace traditional rubber and mesh seam tape when used in conjunction with GacoPro Roof Coating.
Mathys Parafix is an acrylic based colourless fixation primer for weathered bituminous substrates, used to prevent the absorption of waterborne paints on porous substrates. Parafix is a special impregnating primer for roofing and bituminous products, before recoating with Dacfill. It is also used as a primer under Paracem. Parafix is a...
Rust-Oleum Mathys Elastofill forms a rubber-like mass with permanently high elasticity (>900%) after evaporation of the water - can absorb strong expansions and deformations - alkali resistant - very resistant to ageing, weather and temperature variations - waterproof - very good adhesion - easy application. Mathys Elastofill is an...
GacoFlex 66S Tape is a low profile, fusion-bonded polyester fiber designed to form a strong, yet conforming, membrane for silicone elastomeric coatings on uneven surfaces. Used for plywood joints, concrete construction joints, concrete cracks, and joints between metal, fiberglass or insulation, and combinations of the above substrates in roof,...
Rust-Oleum Mathys Dacfill / Dacfill HZ Fleece is a polyester woven mesh, flexible and elastic which is specified for use as a system with Dacfill HZ flat-roof coating. Reinforcement fleeces provide added durability, flexibility and strength to flat-roofs. A fraction of the cost of re-felting or re-roofing 15 years maintenance free life...
GacoFlex SF2000 SeamSeal is a silicone-based, solvent-free, single-component waterproof elastomeric moisture-curing sealant combined with a reinforcing agent. Intended for application over cleaned and primed roofs as a joint and fastener treatment in place of fabric and/or elastomeric sheet tape. It may also be used to repair blisters in spray...
Reinforcement fleeces are ideal to add additional strength, flexibility and durability to your roof. Especially when you are dealing with cracks, splits, holes or joins in roofing, the addition of reinforcement fleeces will increase the life expectancy of your roof and coating system. We stock a wide range of fleeces, suitable to be used in conjunction with a variety of roof coating systems such as those from Tor and Rust-Oleum.
Primers are great to ensure the substrate is in optimal condition for the next layer of paint. If you are renovating an existing roof, a primer might be needed to stabilize loose particles, to prepare weathered substrates or to prevent the absorption of moisture on porous substrates. If you are coating a completely new roof for the first time, we also stock primers to give your roof the maximum durability and life expectancy, on surfaces and substrates including:
- Mild Steel
- Roofing felt
- Terracotta tiles
- Lightweight concrete screeds
- Clay tiles
Many of these primers can be applied on damp (but not wet) roof surfaces to improve:
- Low temperature flexibility
- Heat and solar reflective capabilities of topcoat applications
- Colour retention – where applicable
- High strength bond between the surface and the topcoat application
- Improving the elevated level of tack on vertical surfaces
- Extending the lifespan of previously aged and weathered surfaces
- UV resistance
- Chemical and pollution resistance
- Protection against moss, algae and fungal growth
- Crack bridging to prevent internal leaks
- Minimise dirt retention
- Resistant to water immersion in autumn and winter months
As we stock primers and reinforcement fleeces for various brands and for various surfaces, please do get in touch when you have any enquiries about the best products for your roofing project.
Our roof coating systems are designed to waterproof, protect and decorate almost all types of roofing materials. Roof coatings are often the most cost effective way to renovate a roof by allowing the user to extend the life expectancy without the need of a specialist contractor.
However, often larger roofing projects require some form of ‘guarantee’ for the client and/or building owner to provide peace of mind that the coating system applied to the roof will protect/waterproof the roof for an agreed period of time.
We offer systems that can be used year round to provide upto 5, 10, 15 and 25 years protection when applied by an approved contractor to flat, metal, pitched, felt, asbestos, corrugated roofs and more. Cold applied, seamless systems mean no need for heat or naked flames providing tough, elastomeric, waterproofing coatings that withstand thermal/structural movement.
We will visit your site and carry out a full inspection, write a tailored specification to meet your requirements and offer an approved contractor for the application. We will never offer a contractor that we have not trained and approved, all our contractors have successfully completed specific product training on the systems they apply and are monitored regularly to ensure the highest standard of quality is achieved.
By using one of our nationwide approved contractors for our products you enable yourself to take advantage of our guarantees, life expectancies and warranties. This means that if we say our system is going to last a certain amount of time, or perform in a certain way and it doesn’t, you’re covered.
If you’re a contractor and would like to become an approved installer of our systems please contact us on 0113 245 5450
