Primers & Reinforcement

Category Overview

To ensure strength, optimal waterproof properties and life expectancy up to 25 years, the use of a roof primer or roof reinforcement fleeces might be required before applying your roof paint. Whether you are dealing with a new roof or the renovation of an older roof, the right products for your project are essential. We stock a wide range of primers and reinforcement fleeces to ensure you can be equipped with all you will need for your roofing projects.

Flashing and roof primers are designed to provide a base for bituminous topcoats and roof sealants to adhere to on dusty and porous surfaces, promoting higher waterproofing capabilities and are an integral part of any roof coating installation. Roof primers are also critical parts of successful repair and renovation work, including the addition of skylights, solar-panels, etc. on previously waterproofed roofs.

Reinforcement Fleeces

Reinforcement fleeces are ideal to add additional strength, flexibility and durability to your roof. Especially when you are dealing with cracks, splits, holes or joins in roofing, the addition of reinforcement fleeces will increase the life expectancy of your roof and coating system. We stock a wide range of fleeces, suitable to be used in conjunction with a variety of roof coating systems such as those from Tor and Rust-Oleum.

Primers

Primers are great to ensure the substrate is in optimal condition for the next layer of paint. If you are renovating an existing roof, a primer might be needed to stabilize loose particles, to prepare weathered substrates or to prevent the absorption of moisture on porous substrates. If you are coating a completely new roof for the first time, we also stock primers to give your roof the maximum durability and life expectancy, on surfaces and substrates including:

  • • Concrete
  • • Asbestos
  • • Cement
  • • Metal
  • • Mild Steel
  • • Asphalt
  • • Roofing felt
  • • Zinc
  • • Slate
  • • Terracotta tiles
  • • Lightweight concrete screeds
  • • Masonry

Many of these primers can be applied on damp (but not wet) roof surfaces to improve:

  • • Low temperature flexibility
  • • Heat and solar reflective capabilities of topcoat applications
  • • Waterproofing
  • • Colour retention – where applicable
  • • High strength bond between the surface and the topcoat application
  • • Stain-blocking
  • • Improving the elevated level of tack on vertical surfaces
  • • Extending the lifespan of previously aged and weathered surfaces
  • • UV resistance
  • • Chemical and pollution resistance
  • • Protection against moss, algae and fungal growth
