Teamac QD Zinc Phosphate Metal Primer - Rapid Corrosion Protection
Teamac QD Zinc Phosphate Metal Primer is formulated to provide superior protection for metal surfaces, especially in environments where corrosion is a concern. This high-build primer not only ensures excellent adhesion but also delivers a semi-matt finish that prepares surfaces for topcoating. The fast-drying nature of this primer makes it ideal for projects requiring quick turnaround times without compromising on quality.
Features and Benefits
- Anti-Corrosive Properties: The primer is enriched with zinc phosphate, a well-known anti-corrosive agent, ensuring the longevity of metal surfaces in harsh environments.
- Quick Drying: Designed for efficiency, the primer dries rapidly, allowing for faster project completion.
- High Build: Its high-build formula provides excellent coverage and a smooth surface, ready for further finishing.
- Versatile Application: Suitable for use on iron and steel, this primer is particularly beneficial in coastal or industrial areas where corrosion is a major concern.
Application and Usage
Before applying the primer, ensure all surfaces are thoroughly cleaned, free from grease, oil, and contaminants. For optimal results, blast cleaning to SA 2½ is recommended, but if this is not possible, mechanical cleaning should be employed. The primer is best applied using an airless spray method, but other methods such as brush or roller can be used, depending on the project requirements.
It is important to apply the primer in a well-ventilated area, following safety guidelines. The primer should not be used in conditions where the temperature is below the dew point, as this can affect the drying and performance of the coating.
Limitations and Recommendations
While the zinc phosphate primer is highly effective in preventing corrosion, it is essential to use it only on the recommended surfaces, such as iron and steel. It should not be applied on surfaces that are not thoroughly cleaned or on non-metallic surfaces. Avoid using this primer in areas with poor ventilation or in extremely cold or humid conditions, as these can impede its effectiveness.
If additional protection is required, consider following up with a suitable topcoat, such as the Teamac Rapidry QD Enamel, which complements the primer and enhances its protective qualities.

elaine on 2021-05-13 09:53:31 | Question:
hello, I have some new mild steel fencing to paint it will be in an exposed urban area, can i use this primer under a topcoat of Zinsser AllCoat Exterior Satin (Water Based)? if not what would you recommend. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, for this application assuming the mild steel panels are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the Technical Data Sheet we can recommend Rust-Oleum 3369/3380 CombiPrimer Anti-Corrosion followed by two coats of Rust-Oleum CombiColor Original. This can be mixed to many RAL and BS colours in a satin or gloss finish. | |
