Assuming the concrete posts are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data this product can be applied directly.

For the timber posts, assuming they are bare and also prepared, they should be primed first with Zinsser Cover Stain.

Any knots should be spot primed with Zinsser B-I-N first.

Hiya, is this an acrylic or latex (or something else) based paint? Can I use it on top of an epoxy primer? Thankyou!

No, if a 2 pack epoxy primer has previously been used to prime the substrate, then you should overcoat with a 2-pack topcoat.

Question 4

Hi, I am planning on painting a mural on an exterior brick wall, can I use this paint as the base coat and can I apply afterwards acrylic water base paint on top of that once dried?

Although this product is designed to be a finish coat in it's own right when applied as a two coat system, you could also consider painting the mural in this product as it is available to be mixed to many RAL, BS & NCS colours.

Whilst it can be overpainted, we'd recommend to apply a test area sample for compatibility and adhesion prior to full application.

Since this product is water-based, can it be diluted?

This product usually does not require thinning, but it can be thinned upto a maximum of 10% with clean water.

Hi! Is it possible to get this mixed in a valspar colour? I really love Rabbits Foot but Zinsser All Coat is the best paint I've ever used!

Unfortunately we cannot mix to a Valspar colour, we would recommend viewing a physical RAL, NCS or BS colour chart to ascertain a suitable colour match.

All coat satin - I have a a galvanised and painted garage side panel which is now flaking and rusting. Can I use all coat satin without a primer if the flaking paint and any rust is removed by wire brushing? Thanks

Unfortuntely no, assuming the galvanised side panel is bare, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet you will need to prime the area first with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3.

Unfortunately no, this paint is not suitable for any area that will be walked on.

Is the Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Matt paint suitable for cement roof tiles? If not is the satin finish suitable? Thank you

Unfortunately no, we would not recommend Zinsser Allcoat for application to cement roof tiles.

Assuming the cement tiles are bare, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we can recommend Cromar Renocoat Roof Tile Renovation Paint.

This is available in slate grey or dark brown.

How much paint do i need to paint two upvc front doors

Based on an estimate of 5m² you would require approximately 1L, this would allow for two coats. The theoretical coverage for this product is 12m²/L per coat.

Question 11

We have an old property that needs to breath, reading the data information it looks like this paint is waterproof but vapour permeable therefore allowing trapped moisture to escape. Can you please confirm this before I order. Also some areas have flaking paint which I will remove first. Do I need to prime these first and is so what with that will enable it to still breath. Thanks

This product does state it is vapour permable, we would need to know more information regarding the substrate to ascertain what primers may be required or if another product would be better suited to you application.

Hi..can you advise if this product is suitable for painting stables and is safe for animals? Also do you do colour samples? Am struggling to choose

Unfortunately we do not have an animal safe paint to recommend.

This and many of the paints we supply are mixed to industry standard RAL and BS colour codes.

We would recommend looking at a colour chart in person to ascertain colour suitability.

Unfortunately the manufacturer does not supply samples.

Can the be painted straight on to exterior grade plywood sheets, used as an internal wall lining?

Question 15

Zinsser All Coat Exterior Satin Finish. We need to paint the pipework to the front of the house. Mixture of old light grey painted cast iron, old (and grungy) light grey unpainted UPVC and new white unpainted UPVC. Decided on RAL 160 20 05 Beryl Black Green. I saw from previous questions/answers that Satin sheds dirt easier than Matt. My question: What preparation would we need before applying the Zinsser? Thank you.

Assuming all the substrates are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet Zinsser Allcoat Exterior can be used.

We would recommend testing for compatibility and adhesion on any previously applied paint.

Any bare metal areas should be primed with Zinsser Bulls eye 1-2-3 prior to application.

All substrates must be thoroughly cleaned, degreased and lightly sanded prior to application.

Question 16

I have used this paint on a box trailer built with exterior plywood. Within 3 months dry summer it was flaking off and 'melted' the exterior sealant. I sanded and repainted it and re-did the seals. Six months and into winter it flaked off even more, again reacted with another brand of exterior sealant (Sikaflex) and also had black mould growing on an area. It also reacted with exterior sealants (this time Sikaflex). I am now having to repeat an entire project a third time in less than a year. Is this a bad batch? As it has done nothing it says it does, it is the worst paint I have ever used.

We would recommend first priming with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3, followed by Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Waterbased.

Or to negate the need for the additional primer coat, we would recommend Zinsser AllWeather Exterior Masonry Paint (Solvent Based).

I'd like to paint new uPVC soil pipes with Zinsser Allcoat Exterior water-based paint to match our downpipes and gutters (in RAL7032). The downpipes are aluminium and have been powder coated in a Matt finish. Am I best using Matt or Satin on the uPVC pipes?

Assuming the powder coating applied to the aluminium is polyester, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we can recommend priming with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 prior to application of Zinsser Allcoat Exterior water-based.

Matt, satin or gloss finish could be used for this application depending on the appearance you require.

Is Zinsser AllCoat Exterior Matt (Water Based) suitable for painting outdoor terracotta and plastic plant pots? How long will it likely last before peeling?

The life span of the product is upto 15 years dependant on preparation and levels of exposure to the environment.

Unfortunately the manufacturer does not produce any colour cards as this paint is available in nearly all RAL, BS, NCS colours and more.

You can however send a colour sample to us and we can assist in matching it for you.

I am needing to paint a large gate that has been previously stained, will I be able to use Zinsser AllCoat Exterior Matt (Water Based) straight on top of the old woodstain?

Assuming the timber is dry, sound and prepared as stated in the Technical Data Sheet yes this can be used.

If the timber is resinous prime with Zinsser Cover Stain.

I'm going to painting my house and the external is finished in timber, can i use Zinsser AllCoat Exterior Matt (Water Based) paint. The previous owners use butinox paint which was oil base can i use the Zinsser straight on or do you advise to sand the timber 1st

Zinsser AllCoat Exterior Matt (Water Based) is ideal for application to previously painted timber.

Surfaces should be clean, dry, sound and free of any contamination that may interfere with adhesion. Remove all loose or peeling paint and chalky paint residue. Sand edges of any remaining paint film until smooth.

Zinsser AllCoat Exterior Matt (Water Based) is self-priming and will adhere to most sound surface. It bonds to existing glossy paints without sanding. The first coat primes and seals the surface, providing a base for the topcoat.

I am looking at painting external tiles on the front of our house. would it be recommended to use the Matte or Satin finish for best longevity

Accepted Answer

Both Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Matt (Water Based) and Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Satin (Water Based) offer a 15 year life expectancy. Matt finishes can harbour more dirt whereas satin or gloss finishes are better at shedding dirt so will look cleaner for longer.

I am looking to paint a galvanised garage door (currently in white gloss) and upvc front door (in white) with your Allcoat exterior Matt (water based), would this product do both surfaces and do you recommend an undercoat product. Thanks

Zinsser AllCoat Exterior Matt (Water Based) is more intended for masonry surfaces, it will not adhere as well to these surfaces as Zinsser AllCoat Exterior Satin (Water Based), it will also pick up dirt a little easier around the door handles etc. We would suggest you consider the satin which can go onto both surfaces with no primer required. Surfaces must be clean and lightly abraded. Apply 2 coats of the Satin Water based.

Question 31

I have some of the Zinsser all in one exterior paint (in grey shade) left over.Can I use it indoors, or is there any harmfull chemicals that will make it unsuitable for indoor use? Thank you
