Questions
Question about the product
Rowan on 2024-06-30 01:24:31 | Question:
I am looking for a product to prevent water ingress through the top of a stone wall (60cm thick, it's an old barn without its roof surrounding an open-air swimming pool). The original concrete cap has disintegrated - I will remove and prep properly first. Do you think that this will be suitable? Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Thank you for this enquiry, we have e-mailed you directly to request further information.
Malc lambert on 2024-03-30 09:31:19 | Question:
Wethertex hi build is this a better textured coating than sandtex texture paint ..is it fairly easy to apply and can I get it in a cornish cream colour please ..many thanks malc ..(Southampton). |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We do not stock Sandtex, but this is a good quality textured coating. It should be applied with the Wethertex Textured Rollers. This is available in a range of Wethertex colours, RAL, NCS or BS colours.
Fiona on 2023-08-21 12:50:38 | Question:
Will this product cover trowel marks on my exterior wall? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product should cover trowel marks on your exterior wall, however it would be dependent on how deep these are and what trowel marks have been left. We have replied seperately to request more information.
Andrew Batchelor on 2023-06-23 18:39:35 | Question:
Hello, I have applied one coat using your textured roller but I can still see slight undulations on the wall, can I apply a second coat and would this help mask the undulations. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
While this is a high build coating that can assist with covering small cracks or uneven areas, it cannot be used to fill areas. It will mirror the contours of the substrate, but the texture will assist with hiding it.
Jones on 2022-11-25 18:20:27 | Question:
Is this paint suitable for covering a currently un-painted pebble dash external wall? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes assuming the pebble dashed wall is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet this can be applied by hawk and trowel or with a Wethertex Textured Rollers For optimum performance apply to a substrate that has been primed with Wethertex ST1 Quick Dry Stabilising Primer.
Watson on 2022-11-24 07:55:07 | Question:
Our 1930's build property ( solid wall/ no cavity) had the old pebbledash render removed & a concrete based smooth render applied. The property has been painted with a good quality weather shield paint. Would this product be suitable to provide extra protection as water penetrates through to the internal wall in one small area around a door frame. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes this product is highly waterpoof and it can be applied to previously painted external walls. We would recommend a test for compatibility and adhesion on a small area prior to full application. The previously painted wall must be clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet. For application and curing the temperature must be between 5 and 25°C.
R Phipps on 2022-11-02 07:55:32 | Question:
Hello, Can your product - HBS Flex-coat Hi-Build Coating - be used to provide an external finish for timber framed walls lined (externally) with cement board to provide a protected, weather/water proof finish. This is for a single story garage extension with a flat roof; the new external walls are lined with OSB, membrane and cement board to the outside face, the product would be applied to this board face. It is just the external finish to apply to complete the works for Building Control sign-off. R Phipps |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product can be applied to cement render boards, assuming they are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet. The whole surface of the boards must be be primed with Wethertex ST1 Quick Dry Stabilising Primer then the joints taped with a scrim tape prior to application.
Mick Little on 2022-07-27 12:40:59 | Question:

Steve on 2022-04-25 19:52:05 | Question:
Hi, can this be applied directly with a roller? |

This paint can be applied by spray application or hawk and trowel. When applied by hawk and trowel a Wethertex Textured Roller is used to add texture after application.

Can I use Wethertex HBS flex coat to paint over my render? Original cement render then 10 years ago coated with Everflex resin product. Looks tatty & needs refreshing. Surface is pretty sound. Thanks in advance. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Bill Turner on 2021-04-30 07:45:58 | Question:
Hi, Can Wethertex HBS Flex-Coat Hi-Build Coating be used on a wall with K-rend on it. Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Wynne on 2021-03-02 12:26:04 | Question:
I live in a 1936 built house which has a pebble dash exterior. The wall seems stable but has a few fine cracks and I was hoping to cover this with a breathable water proof coating. Would Wether HBS Flex-Coat Hi Build coating be suitable. ? Also can this be applied without having to use a brush ? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Wethertex HBS Flex-Coat is a highly breathable, waterproof, high build exterior coating. It can be applied with a textured roller or hawk and trowel to obtain your desired textured finish.
Richard on 2020-05-08 11:55:08 | Question:
Hi. I would like to ask if Wethertex HBS Flex-Coat Hi-Build Coating would be suitable for my property. I have and old brick built house which in places has no cavity wall. The building has been rendered using a lime based render. I need to do some repairs to the render and then repaint. I was hoping that a textured paint would assist in hiding the repared areas, but I am concerned that the final finish needs to be breathable so as not to cause problems. Is this product suitable in these circumstances? Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This cannot be applied over a lime render. It will adhere initially but it will start to blister after a short period of time.
Lionel Owen on 2019-08-31 19:39:48 | Question:
I have old (flakey in places)highly textured, high build paint on concrete render that I need to remove in order to apply another coat of smoother high build properly. What is the best way and easiest to remove high build please? Many thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
You could try something like Thermoguard Thermostrip PRO to soften the existing coating for removal but ultimately we would assume it necessary to employ pressure washing, scraping, wire brushing, etc. to gain complete removal.
Richard Measures on 2019-08-28 12:50:05 | Question:
I have bare breezeblock to cover on a garage - will this product do the job? I'm looking for a rough finish rather than smooth |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes, the breeze block should however first be primed with Wethertex ST1 Quick Dry Stabilising Primer.
Peter Hilling on 2019-08-09 16:39:22 | Question:
I want to apply Wethertex to a hollow block retaining garden wall, but my concern is that damp could come through the wall from the back and damage the Wethertex. My question - Is there a waterproof coating that can be used on the wall on to which I can then paint the Wethertex |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Depending on the level of negative water pressure expected, something like Sikalastic 1K, followed by applicaiton of Wethertex HBS Flex-Coat Hi-Build Coating.
John Riggs on 2019-04-22 13:06:03 | Question:
Would OSB3 Board need any preparation before applying this product? Other than taping over joints and filling the fixing holes. It's to be used on the South-west (prevailing wind)side of a park home. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
On OSB we recommend priming first with Wethertex ST1 Quick Dry Stabilising Primer and then using a plasterers scrim on the joints before applying the Wethertex HBS Flex-Coat Hi-Build Coating.
Mark on 2019-03-22 16:02:12 | Question:
Can you this product to paint over the outside walls (house)if they have been painted previously with waterproof paint . Thanks. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Wethertex HBS Flex-Coat Hi-Build Coating can be used over existing coatings however it does depend on which type has been applied. As we do not know this we would recommend a test area is applied to ascertain suitability and would advise the use of Wethertex ST1 Quick Dry Stabilising Primer also.
Tim on 2019-03-13 18:58:42 | Question:
Hi. Would this coating bridge butt joints in OSB3 clad walls without a bridging material? If no, what bridging material is available? |

Nicholas on 2019-01-22 13:05:24 | Question:
Hi Is this paint, suitable for a garden wall surrounding our patio, which I’d made from blocks? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Wethertex HBS Flex-Coat Hi-Build Coating can be applied to blockwork, in this particular application the important factor would be to ensure no water/moisture is allowed to penetrate through the wall from behind the coating to cause issues.
