Description

Coo-Var S/B Low Odour Road Line Paint

This single-pack, solvent-based linemarking paint is formulated for high performance on a variety of surfaces, including concrete, tarmac, and wood. Its quick-drying properties ensure minimal downtime during application, allowing for fast return to service. The product’s low odour formulation makes it particularly suitable for use in enclosed or populated areas, where air quality is a concern.

Application and Usage

The linemarking paint can be applied using a brush or roller, with no thinning required, providing excellent coverage and adhesion. It is essential that surfaces are clean, dry, and free from contaminants before application to ensure optimal performance. For concrete surfaces, a good 'key' should be provided by roughening the surface, which can be achieved mechanically or chemically. New concrete and tarmac should be properly cured and weathered before painting.

  • Recommended for marking areas such as car parks, warehouse floors, sports courts, and factory floors.
  • Apply a minimum of two coats for enhanced durability and visibility.
  • Not suitable for use on surfaces that are not fully cured or have high moisture content.

Performance and Durability

With a matt finish, this linemarking paint ensures that markings remain clear and visible under various lighting conditions without reflecting excessive light. The product’s formulation provides strong resistance to wear and tear, even in high-traffic areas. It also includes slip resistance certification, making it safe for pedestrian and vehicular use.

Health and Safety Considerations

The linemarking paint is classified as a flammable liquid (Category 3) and may cause drowsiness or dizziness (Specific Target Organ Toxicity – Single Exposure, Category 3). Ensure adequate ventilation during application and avoid inhalation of vapours. The paint should be stored in a cool, well-ventilated area away from heat sources.

Restrictions and Limitations

Do not apply this product on surfaces exposed to high moisture levels or during high humidity conditions, as it may adversely affect the drying time and overall performance. It is not recommended for use on surfaces with oil or grease contamination. Ensure all surfaces are properly prepared as per the technical data sheet guidelines to achieve the best results.

Question:

I have white line on the road to marking the entrance to my driveway, painted by Highways. It has now eroded. Do I need to clean the tarmac before painting? What do you recommend please?

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Lines painted by Highways are normally their responsibility. They are usually a hot applied coating which is several mm thick.  Coo-Var S/B Low Odour Road Line Paint is used for marking lines but is not the same product as that used by Highways. It may be advisable to speak to the local Highways department first. If this is not possible then thoroughly clean the lines and apply a test “line” to a small area using Coo-Var S/B Low Odour Road Line Paint. If the paint adheres well then you can overpaint the lines but you should be aware that it will not be as durable as the Thermoplastic type coatings used by Highways departments. It is not a substitute for hot applied road line paints.
