Wethertex GRC Fibre Glass Reinforced Base Coat - Superior Cement-Based Waterproofing Solution
Designed for mixed substrates. Its high polymer modification and fibre reinforcement ensure exceptional performance and durability, making it the ultimate base coat for professional applications. The product offers excellent workability and finishing time properties, allowing it to be applied by hand or spray, even in low temperatures.
Preparation
Before application, ensure all surfaces are sound, clean, dry, and free of any material that may impair adhesion. Avoid applying to shiny surfaces. Faults in the structure, particularly those leading to moisture penetration, must be rectified. Mask around the areas to be applied and remove masking tape before the material dries. Beads and expansion joints should be included as required by the substrate and British Standards.
Priming and Mixing
Wet down dry substrates with clean water before priming. Mix the base coat with clean water at a rate of approximately 4.75 litres per 25kg bag using a suitable paddle or pan mixer. Mix for 2 minutes, allow standing for 2 minutes, then remix to activate the chemical additives.
Application
Apply the GRC Fibre Glass Reinforced Base Coat in a one-coat, 2-pass operation to a thickness of 10-15mm. For a 10mm flat finish, apply the first pass to the primed substrate with a stainless steel trowel or spray pump, including fibre-reinforcing mesh. Overlap the mesh joints by 100mm and add additional stress patches at all openings. Apply the second pass wet on wet to the first pass, level flat, and finish with a wet sponge float. For a 15mm finish, follow a similar process with adjusted thicknesses for each pass.
Usage Restrictions and Recommendations
Do not apply the product if frost is forecast, in excessive wet conditions, if the relative humidity is above 95%, in temperatures below 3°C or above 25°C, or if the elevation is in direct sunlight. Avoid applying on hot substrates (above 30°C) or below +1°C. Protect the render against heavy rain, direct sun, or wind for the first 24 hours after application.
