Questions
Question about the product
Warren on 2024-10-28 14:22:57 | Question:
Is the Rust-Oleum 3202 any good for spraying a car chassis as a Weld-Thru Primer |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, the manufacturer hasn't tested this product to be approved as a weldable primer, as well as not being suitable for spray application, so we would advise against using in this type of application.
Paul Jones on 2024-04-09 11:21:03 | Question:
I have repainted my galvanised metal steel garage door after completely stripping off old paint leaving bare metal. Although useing metal primer /undercoat and then oil based top coat after time paint bubbles and peels off. I have done this twice useing different primers with same result. Are your paints suitable for garage door please and what do you suggest. Thanks Paul Jones |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the galvanised steel is bare, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical datasheet, one coat of Rust-Oleum 3202 Galvinoleum Primer should be applied to improve adhesion, before overcoating. We'd recommend Rust-Oleum 7500 Alkythane, this can be mixed to many RAL, BS & NCS Colours in a satin or gloss finish. If a smaller tin size is required for one garage door, you could consider 3202 Galvinoluem Primer and Rust-Oleum CombiColor Original.
Rachel on 2024-04-05 14:10:47 | Question:
Hello - I've got brand new galvanized gutter brackets to paint before installing. Can i use this product and then paint over it with the custom color trade gloss we're using on all exterior fittings? Thank you! |
We'd recommend Rust-Oleum 7500 Alkythane as a finish coat, this will provide protection from Anti-Corrosion and available in your choice of 4400+ RAL, BS & NCS Colours.
Steven on 2024-03-07 15:55:13 | Question:
I am painting Crittal windows which have been stripped back to galvanised steel - should I use a coat of this and then Rust-O-Leum Painters Touch for a colour finish or is it best to use Combi-Color? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Thank you for the enquiry, we have contacted you direct for more information.
Tony jeeves on 2020-05-14 09:16:10 | Question:
Hi Will this product work with polyurethane paints for adhering to baths, shower trays and basins? The original surface can be anything from metal, acrylic baths, acrylic, fibreglass and stone shower trays and ceramic basins. Thank you |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product is designed for galvanised steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, glass, porcelain and other smooth, dense surfaces to be topcoated with Rust-Oleum 7500 Alkythane only.
Simon Branscombe on 2020-01-16 17:11:45 | Question:
Can Galvanoleum be over painted with standard emulsion paint? I am using a galvanised steel panel as a magnetic board and want to paint it the same colour as the surrounding wall. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We'd recommend Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer and Zinsser Perma-White Interior for this type of application.
Andrei Panait on 2019-11-12 15:08:30 | Question:
Hi. We are planning to paint the galvanised metal floor to external balconies using Rust-Oleum 7200 Floorcoat PU. The metal floor was recently painted with a Dulux product applied over the existing powder coated finish, but the Dulux paint is flaking off. If any flaking is scraped off, can the Adhesion Primer 3200 be used over the exposed powder coated surfaces and the non-flaking Dulux paint, followed by the 7200 Floorcoat PU? Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum 3202 Galvinoleum Primer should be used over bare galvanised surfaces and powdercoated surfaces only, existing well adhered paint instead of being primed should be cleaned and abraded to provide a key and Rust-Oleum 7200 Floorcoat PU applied directly.
Paul Rogers on 2019-07-30 16:19:44 | Question:
Hi, we have a previously painted galvanised fire escape, the existing has been sanded down and in a lot of places the galvanised steel is exposed. Can you use Galvinoleum Primer over the still painted areas as well as the bare metal? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, it would just be recommended to spot prime the bare galvanised areas only. Rust-Oleum 7500 Alkythane could then be applied over all primed and prepared previously painted areas.
Rosie Farrell on 2019-02-15 15:27:51 | Question:
