Questions
Question about the product
Dave on 2023-10-04 12:38:33 | Question:
I am looking for a waterproof paint for a shower floor the current floor is like a moulded vinyl type which goes up about 75mm on the wall it’s too much work stripping it out as it’s still waterproof but I want to change the colour from blue to grey |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product wouldn't be suitable for this application type, as the aggregate is quite harsh and wouldn't be comfortable to walk on in bare feet. Due to vinyl being quite flexible, the paint would likely crack and have trouble adhering to the shiny, un-porous surface. Assuming the vinyl is clean, dry, sound, abraded to achieve a surface profile and solvent wiped with a methylated spirit prior to application, as an alternative you could consider Smartkote Safekote in a range of available colours, with a preceeding coat of Smartkote Clear Primer Treatment to provide adhesion for the topcoat to adhere to. We'd recommend to test for compatibility and adhesion on a small test area firstly prior to full application.
Iksan on 2021-12-07 15:21:28 | Question:
I need anti slip paint over galvanized steel drainage covers on a walkway which is in constant use (foot traffic). Will this be a suitable paint for it? What is the expected durability of this product? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the galvanised covers are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet this paint will be suitable. The covers must be treated first with Teamac Mordant Solution (T Wash), then one coat of Coo-Var Zinc Phosphate Primer should be applied. Coo-Var Suregrip Anti-Slip Floor Paint is suitable for areas exposed to foot traffic and light truck traffic. The life span of the product will depend on the level of traffic.
stuart barratt on 2021-11-30 11:29:26 | Question:
what is the lowest temperature i can use the floor paint please |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Thank you for the enquiry, we would recommend application when substrate temperatures are above 5°C.
Graham on 2021-10-22 11:37:39 | Question:
Hi, I have the Anti-slip paint and was wondering if I can use it on outside floor tiles on the steps to my house |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Coo-Var Prime-All would be the recommended primer for use on tiles prior to the application of Coo-Var Suregrip.
Mark on 2021-08-06 16:02:28 | Question:
When you say “a 10% thinned coat of paint” I’m assuming you mean a coat consisting of 90%paint and 10% thinner or is it the other way round ? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Depending on the substrate, Coo-Var Floor Paint can be used as a primer thinned 10% with Teamac Thinner 14. 1ltr of paint should have 100ml of thinners mixed in.
Lucy on 2020-05-07 16:30:09 | Question:
What product is best to clean equipment after this suregrip paint has been applied? E.g. cleaning brushes and rollers? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
For cleaning brushes and rollers after application we can recommend Thinner 14.

i am looking for an anti slip coating to apply to drain covers in a school walkway that is used infrequently |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Brenda on 2018-02-17 16:29:16 | Question:
Have slopping concrete steps leading up to house what is the best paint to make them look better. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
All surfaces should be clean, dry, sound and free from contaminants. Concrete - power floated, granolithic and smooth surfaces should be roughened first to provide a good "key" for the paint. This can be done mechanically by abrading or blasting, or chemically using Coo-Var Acid Etch. These processes will have the advantage in addition to preparing the surface of also removing dirt and laitance. New concrete must be allowed to cure thoroughly which can take up to 3 months. Apply a 10% thinned coat of Coo-Var Floor Paint to prime and seal the surface prior to applying Coo-Var Suregrip.
Ron Hughes on 2017-11-15 17:41:09 | Question:
Do you need to use a primer before using coo var outdoor anti slip paint
|
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Use Coo-Var Penetrating Wood Primer on wood, Coo-Var Zinc Phosphate Metal Primer on ferrous metals, 10% thinned Coo-Var Floor Paint or Coo-Var Alkali Resisting Primer on concrete.
Dean French on 2017-06-26 10:04:40 | Question:
Please would you tell me what the finish is like on the Coo Var Sure Grip Anti slip paint is - is it satin, semi gloss or something else please?
thanks
Dean French |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
It is a matt, aggregated finish.
Azurey on 2016-04-06 10:31:18 | Question:
Is the non slip surface very rough. I have a 75' length garden where I throw a ball for my dog to run back and forth to me. Would the non slip be too rough on her paws ? also is it easy to clean and sweep off leaves etc. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
It is a coarse anti-slip finish which can make it tough to clean. If you're looking for something less aggressive we would recommend Rust-Oleum Tarmacoat.
Norma burns on 2016-01-13 08:48:44 | Question:
How many coats of Coo-Var Suregrip Anti-Slip Floor Paint should I apply on an exterior surface to give maximum protection? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Bare surfaces should first be cleaned, prepared and primed as follows; Coo-Var Penetrating Wood Primer on wood, Coo-Var Zinc Phosphate Primer on ferrous metals, Coo-Var Floor Paint (thinned 10%) or Coo-Var Alkali Resisting Primer Sealer on concrete. Once suitably primed, apply 2 coats of Coo-Var Suregrip Anti-Slip Floor Paint in the desired colour at 6-10m² per litre/per coat by brush or roller.
