Teamac Chlorvar is a versatile and durable chlorinated rubber paint, formulated to deliver exceptional resistance to harsh environments. This high-gloss finish is designed to withstand exposure to saltwater, chemicals, and acids, making it the ideal choice for both indoor and outdoor applications where durability and long-lasting protection are paramount. Available in a variety of colours, this product is perfect for professionals seeking a reliable coating solution for demanding environments.
Applications
This paint is highly effective on a range of surfaces including metal, concrete, and wood. It is particularly well-suited for use in:
- Swimming pools (requires a 14-day curing period before filling with water)
- Marine environments such as ship decks and hulls
- Industrial settings like laundries, piping, and parlours
- Corrosive atmospheres where chemical and water resistance is essential
Always ensure that the surface is properly prepared before application. For concrete surfaces, treat with an acid etch prior to painting. For previously painted surfaces, ensure they are clean and slightly roughened to enhance adhesion.
Limitations and Restrictions
Do not use this product over conventional paint systems as compatibility issues may arise. It is essential to test a small area before full application. Additionally, ensure adequate ventilation during application and drying, especially in confined spaces. The product should be applied with care, avoiding use near open flames or other sources of ignition due to its flammable nature.
Recommended Products
For best results, use Teamac Metaclor Underwater Primer on metal and wood surfaces before applying Chlorvar. On concrete and other porous surfaces, a thinned coat of Chlorvar can be used as a primer to seal the surface. This combination ensures optimal adhesion and durability.
Health and Safety
Always refer to the downloadable data sheet for comprehensive safety guidelines. This product contains volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and must be handled with care. It is classified as a flammable liquid and poses risks of respiratory irritation and dizziness if inhaled. Ensure appropriate protective equipment is worn during application, including gloves, eye protection, and respirators as needed.

Questions
Question about the product
Steve Colbourne on 2024-11-25 20:40:12 | Question:
Hi, can this product be used on concrete block and mortar? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the concrete block and mortar are bare, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical datasheet, the requirement isn't for a water tank, pool area or something to hold water, this product can be applied providing the substrate moisture readings are below 7% on application. However assuming application is externally, we'd recommend using this product when temperatures are milder and above a minimum of 10C to guarantee curing and performance isn't impacted by colder temperatures.
Danny on 2022-10-25 17:05:12 | Question:
Could you please tell me what the warranty is on the paint please I.e how long it will last please plus do you do sample pot’s please? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
There is no warranty on the product and it is not available in samples sizes. Please provide more infomration on the application to [email protected] and we can assist with suitability and expected life spans.
Paul on 2022-10-21 12:40:59 | Question:
Hi Would this paint be suitable for leisure centers showers please? Or could you please advise me on what might be better. Many thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Plese can you send more information and pictures of the areas to [email protected]. What areas of the showers are to be painted and what are they made of? Are they bare or previously painted or coated?
James on 2022-10-06 14:46:35 | Question:
Hello, I am interested in using this highlight the edge of a hydrotherapy swimming pool for the visually impaired. The pool is 316 grade stainless steel, and the water will be constantly flowing over the painted edge. Its it suitable for this environment and will it get good adhesion on stainless steel? Pool water is 35 degrees C, and chlorine less than 1ppm Many thanks, James |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Unfortunately no, this product would not be suitable for this application. Assuming the stainless steel pool is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet, this will require the pool to be blasted to SA2.5 prior to application we can recommend Teamac 2 Pack Zinc Phosphate Primer followed by 3 coats of Teamac High Performance Polyurethane Topcoat (2 coats in a colour followed by one coat in clear).
Rob on 2022-10-05 17:38:27 | Question:
What is the maximum permanent temperature of chlorinated rubber paint please |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
The paint will soften at 50 to 60°C.
James Calvert on 2022-09-20 20:55:31 | Question:
I have recently build an outdoor swimming pool with concrete / rendered walls. I’ve already painted the walls with Epoxy Resin paint but I’m not 100% happy with it. Would this rubber paint paint over the Epoxy Resin paint? (There has been chlorinated water in the pool for around 1 month) |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Unfortunately no, we would not recommend the use of a single pack paint over the previously applied 2 pack paint. Assuming the previously applied two pack paint is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we can recommend Teamac High Performance Polyurethane Topcoat. This is available in many RAL, NCS or BS colours in a gloss finish. We would recommend the previously applied paint is thoroughly cleaned and sanded, then a test for compatibility / adhesion is undertaken on a small area prior to full application.
David on 2022-06-26 21:31:36 | Question:
Hi, Can this be used to black the bottom of a narrow boat. And can it be applied over an existing tar type blacking. If not do you have any recommendations? Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Unfortunately no this cannot be used over a bitumen or tar coating, this would need to be removed completely before a system including Teamac Chlorvar Chlorinated Rubber Paint could be used. If there is a bitumen-based product on the hull already, it is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we would recommend Teamac Hull Blacking. Normally this would need maintenance or another coat after 2 years.
Andrew Knox on 2022-03-24 19:13:08 | Question:
We want to overpaint poolside wooden doors which have an unknown existing paint finish. If we use Teamac Chlorinated Rubber Paint what do you recommend as an undercoat. Can we also use this paint system to overpaint powder coated metal. Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Thank you for the enquiry, we have contacted you directly for more information.
Caleb Whiteside on 2022-01-17 14:57:50 | Question:
Is this resistant to 32% caustic soda? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, unfortunately this is quite strong Sodum Hydroxide, which unfortunately Chlorvar is not resistant to. However Teamac High Performance Polyurethane Topcoat would be resistant to 32% caustic soda.
John on 2021-11-18 21:19:27 | Question:
Can you advise if there is a minimum application temperature? The notes says 'good normal painting conditions' so is it 10degrees? Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
There is not specified minimum termperature of application, but humidity should also be taken into consideration. At lower temperatures the humidity will be higher, we would recommend application at 10°C of above.
Lisa on 2021-10-18 12:45:56 | Question:
Hi. I am getting a garden room/shed to house my easy up pool and was thinking that this might be a good product to paint the inside of the shed to minimise water damage. The floor will be pressure treated when it arrives. Can I paint onto a pressure treated surface? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the timber is clean,,dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the techncial data sheet this could be used once the timber is primed with Teamac Metaclor Antifouling Primer.
Lynn Yorkston on 2021-08-30 14:17:49 | Question:
Can you advise if this paint is suitable for a workshop floor. Also the existing floor paint is all chipped with areas of concrete exposed. What products would we need to ensure covered correctly? The area is 13m x 8m so if you can also advise quantities needed please. Thanks. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Thank you for the enquiry, we have contacted you directly for more information.
Lee Evans on 2021-07-23 15:16:04 | Question:
Would this protect mild steel against Hypochlorite 15. if so how many coats would be needed. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product with have some resistance to 15% hypochlorite, but due to the strength of it, it may discolour the paint with prolonged contact. We would recommend testing on a small area prior to full application.
carl on 2021-07-05 16:16:46 | Question:
How many coats are recommended for a swimming pool? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the substrate is bare concrete, it is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet, 3 coats would normally be required with the first thinned 10% wih Teamac Thinner 15.
Jay Mitchell on 2019-10-13 16:25:57 | Question:
Could I use this to paint a wooden hot tub to create a water tight coating and would it withstand a constant temperature of 40 degrees. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Teamac Chlorvar Chlorinated Rubber Paint can be applied to timber as long as Teamac Metaclor Underwater CR Primer is used first. It will provide a waterproof coating to the wood surface but will not fill/seal any gaps, cracks, etc. in the surface so the substrate should be sound prior to painting.
Les O'Neill on 2018-07-30 18:01:43 | Question:
I am quoting for a battery room floor, the existing paint has flaked in places and needs stripping off and repainting can you tell me what materials I need to repaint. The floor area is 27 square metres. Your advice would be appreciated. Regards, Les O'Neill. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming you wish to protect the floor from Sulphuric Acid our 310 Chemical Resistant Coating would be our recommendation. This offers excellent resistance up to 99% concentrate of Sulphuric Acid. Remove all of the existing failing coating, prime the concrete floor area with 1 coat of 401 Epoxy Floor Primer followed by 2 coats of 310 Chemical Resistant Coating. Based on 27m² you would require 10kg of 401 Epoxy Floor Primer and 20kg of 310 Chemical Resistant Coating.
James Hughes on 2018-06-04 22:47:29 | Question:
Is there a complete list of items the paint will bond to. I want to paint over layers of mdf wood and Eva foam but if that won’t work I can perhaps add a layer of material over the wood and Eva so that the paint bonds better. Any recommendations much appreciated |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
There isn’t an exhaustive list of what the Teamac Chlorvar Chlorinated Rubber can be applied, but we believe adhesion to EVA would be poor without pre-treatment. If you can advise what options you have as an alternative for the Teamac Chlorvar Chlorinated Rubber to be applied to we can advise suitability.
Gavin on 2017-07-11 17:40:02 | Question:
Hi I have walls around a swimming pool in a leisure centre to paint. Is this stuff ideal? And can I spray it using a graco airless?
Thanks, Gavin |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Our recommended specification for swimming pool walls and ceilings (not in the pool itself) is to prime first with Zinsser AllCoat (Solvent-Based),followed by 2 coats Zinsser Perma-White Interior - do not thin either product.
John on 2017-06-19 07:16:58 | Question:
Is this paint heat resistant,as the acid in the tank we need to paint has a working temperature of 70 deg c.thank you .if it doesn't do you have a rubberised acid resistant paint that does? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Teamac Chlorvar Chlorinated Rubber Paint would not be suitable for this application. If you contact our Technical Department with the concentration and type of acid we should be able to offer a suitable coating.
