Teamac Rapidry Primer Undercoat

Teamac Rapidry Primer Undercoat is a versatile, fast-drying primer and undercoat specifically formulated for metal surfaces. This single-pack product is particularly effective in industrial and professional settings where time and efficiency are critical. It is available in three distinct colours—White, Black, and Red Oxide—making it adaptable to various applications.

The primer undercoat is designed to adhere excellently to ferrous metals, providing a solid foundation for subsequent topcoats. Its fast-drying properties allow for recoating in as little as four hours, enabling quicker project turnaround times. This makes it ideal for use on metal fabrications, including steel and iron, where durability and performance are essential.

Application and Usage

Before applying, ensure that all surfaces are thoroughly cleaned, dry, and free from contaminants such as oil, grease, or rust. Blast cleaning to SA 2½ is recommended for optimal results, although mechanical cleaning is an acceptable alternative if blast cleaning is not feasible. This primer undercoat is best applied using an airless spray, although brushing is suitable for smaller areas.

It is crucial to follow good painting practices during application, ensuring that the temperature is above the dew point to prevent contamination. Adequate ventilation should be maintained in confined spaces to facilitate proper drying.

After the primer has dried, it should be overcoated with a suitable topcoat, such as the Teamac Rapidry QD Enamel, to achieve the desired finish and protection.

Restrictions and Limitations

This product is intended for use on ferrous metals and should not be applied to non-ferrous metals or other surfaces that may not be compatible with an alkyd-based primer. The product should not be used in conditions of high humidity or low temperatures, as these can adversely affect drying times and the overall performance of the coating.

It is important not to apply the primer undercoat in environments where it may be exposed to water or excessive moisture before it has fully cured. Doing so may compromise its adhesion and durability.
