It is always best to use an all-round oil or specific oils for vertical surfaces, rather than wood oils meant for other uses. Decking oil in particular often has anti-slip properties that are simply not required on vertically-installed wood cladding.

Should I oil cedar cladding?
Cedar wood cladding can be treated, weatherproofed, and waterproofed, with wood oil. Osmo recommends that new or freshly sanded ingredient rich wood such as cedar needs at least 12 weeks exposure to exterior elements before application.
After the weathering period, it’s generally recommended to de-grey the bare surface with Osmo Wood Reviver Power-Gel, damp rinse, then clean the surface from the extractive content before application - always trial apply!

How do I stop my wood cladding going GREY?
