Teamac Marine Primer Undercoat, is an interior and exterior, oil based marine undercoat. It is a high opacity undercoat with good flow characteristics for use with Teamac Marine Gloss, either as a foundation coating or when a colour change is desired. It has been designed to reduce topcoat sinkage and to retain a high gloss finish.
Teamac Marine Primer Undercoat primes and prepares Wood, GRP, Iron and Steel. Suitable for Narrowboats, Cruisers, Barges, yachts and marine structures. It can be applied to suitably prepared Steel and Cast Iron. Marine Undercoat should be used as a system with Teamac Marine Gloss to retain a long lasting, high gloss finish.
The practical spreading rate may be lower as this depends on factors such as the porosity and roughness of the surface to be painted and material losses during application.

Hello, I am planning on applying (by roller) your marine primer undercoat soon to my GRP / Paint boat. I will have abraded cleaned etc the surface. I am likely to be applying the primer undercoat at around 9 degree C; with a plan to overcoat with two coats of marine gloss up to 5 weeks later at temperatures over 12 degrees C. Boat is outdoors. Do you see any flaws with this plan? Regards Steve, North Wales
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product is dry to recoat or over paint in 12 hours or overnight at 20°C and fully cured in 3 to 5 days.
With the boat being left outdoors it would be better to apply the marine undercoat 12 to 24 hours prior to application of the Teamac Marine Gloss rather than leaving it exposed to weather.
Also if the marine undercoat is full cured it will require sanding prior to application of a paint.

Question:
I am going to repaint my narrowboat. I have some rust spots which I am going to use Teamac Rust Converter. Can I just use Teamac Marine Undercoat or should I use Teamac red oxide first then undercoat then top coats? Many thanks
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the painting is to be done above the waterline we'd recommend applying Teamac Red Oxide over any bare metal areas or areas treated with Rust Converter. The whole surface (above the waterline) should then be undercoated with Teamac Marine Undercoat and finally 2 coats of Teamac Marine Gloss should be applied.

Question:
Is Teamac Marine Gloss OK for salt water & is the Teamac Marine Undercoat fine under the water line?
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Teamac Marine Gloss and Undercoat have good resistance to salt water but should not be used for constant immersion below the waterline. They are suitable for boats that are generally berthed on land. Below the waterline, for boats in the water most of the time our recommendation is Teamac Metaclor Underwater CR Primer and Teamac Chlorvar Chlorinated Rubber Paint, both of which have excellent water resistance.
