Rust-Oleum NeverWet is a superhydrophobic treatment that dramatically repels water, mud, ice and other liquids. This revolutionary surface treatment causes water to form nearly perfect spheres that roll off coated items, keeping them clean and dry. The pack contains a 2-step kit consisting of an aerosol base coat and an aerosol top coat that will cover approximately 1m².

Rust-Oleum NeverWet contains breakthrough technology that protects surfaces with a superhydrophobic treatment that dramatically repels water, mud, ice and other liquids. This revolutionary new class of treatments causes liquids to form nearly perfect spheres, which shoot off the surface keeping items clean and dry. It also guards virtually any surface against corrosion and wear caused by exposure to moisture.

Rust-Oleum NeverWet causes water droplets to form a contact angle of up to 165 degrees, more than three times the contact angle of an untreated surface. When a liquid hits an untreated surface, it pools on the surface, like a deflated ball, causing the item to become saturated. When water, mud and ice contact a NeverWet treated surface, the extreme contact angle causes the liquid to form nearly perfect spheres, like marbles of water. The spheres then glide off the surface, keeping the item clean and dry.

Applications

Rust-Oleum NeverWet can be applied to almost any surface including metal, wood, aluminium, PVC, concrete, masonry, asphalt, fibreglass, canvas and most plastics. It can also be used on fabric, leather and canvas but is not recommended for clothing.

Application Tutorial
Follow our simple step-by-step tutorial to help ensure you get the best finish possible. Rust-oleum NeverWet is a two-step kit. Both the base coat and top coat must be used. The kit will cover approximately 1m².

  1. Surface preparation: Remove all dirt and debris from area to be coated. Cover and mask-off areas to avoid overspray if necessary.
  2. Basecoat application: Shake the can vigorously for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. If the mixing ball fails to rattle DO NOT STRIKE CAN, contact the Technical Department. A test spray on cardboard is recommended to obtain a feel for the spray pattern. Hold the can upright 15-30cm from surface and spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Continue to shake the can between passes. Keep the can the same distance from the surface. Keep the can in motion while spraying. Apply two or more base coats 15 minutes apart. Allow to dry for at least 30 minutes before applying the topcoat.
  3. Topcoat application: Again, shake the can vigorously for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. If mixing ball fails to rattle DO NOT STRIKE CAN, contact the Technical Department. A test spray on cardboard is recommended to obtain a feel for the spray pattern. Hold the can upright 15-30cm from surface and spray in one steady pass. Avoid soaking the surface. Stop and wait for each pass to dry for 1-2 minutes. Three or four coats will give optimum results. Do not apply any other topcoat other than NeverWet™ as it will lose its moisture repellent properties.
  4. Drying: Wait at least 30 minutes before exposing the treated surface to water. Best performance is achieved if the coating is allowed to cure for 12 hours.
  5. Clean Up: When finished spraying, wipe off the tip before storing. Clean up wet or dry coating with white spirits or xylene.

Note: Rust-Oleum NeverWet can be re-applied when water no longer beads and rolls off the surface.

questions Bryan on 2018-09-23 04:02:49
Question:

How do I prepare aluminum for coating with NeverWet? Is phosphoric acid or an etching primer suitable? What about sanding?

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

No need for an etch primer or an acid treatment. The surface can be sanded with a very fine grade of wet and dry then the surface wiped with methylated spirits using a soft cloth. The NeverWet basecoat should adhere quite well following this preparation.
