• Two-component, polyamide adduct cured epoxy paint
• Good wetting properties and low water permeability
• Selfpriming and forms a hard and tough coating which has good resistance against abrasion and impact as well as to seawater, mineral oils, aliphatic hydrocarbons and splashes from petrol and related products
• Harmless to grain cargoes
• Complies with EU Directive 2004/42/EC, The Paints Directive on the limitation of volatile organic compounds: subcategory j
• High build primer, intermediate and/or finishing coat in (heavy duty) paint systems according to specification. (As a finishing coat where a cosmetic appearance is of less importance)
• For repair and maintenance work at application temperatures above 15°C/59°F on hatch covers, decks, in cargo holds, ballast tanks etc
• Hempadur 45141 is intended for warmer climates, Hempadur 45143 is intended for use in cold/temperate climates
• Service temperature: - Maximum, dry exposure only: 150°C
• Complies with US FDA and EU food regulations for contact with dry foodstuff

Preparation

• Cleanliness:
  • Remove oil, grease and other contaminants by suitable detergent cleaning
  • Remove salts, detergents and other contaminants by high pressure fresh water cleaning
• New build:
  • Abrasive blasting to min. Sa 2½ (ISO 8501-1) / SP 10 (SSPC)
  • All damage of shopprimer and contamination from storage and fabrication should be thoroughly mechanically/chemically cleaned prior to final painting
  • Remove dust, blast media and loose materials
• Maintenance and Repair:
  • Spot abrasive blasting to min. PSa 2 (ISO 8501-2) / SP 6 (SSPC)
  • Minor areas can be cleaned by power tool to St 3 provided the surface is roughened and not polished
  • Water jetting to min. Wa 2 (ISO 8501-4)
  • Flash rust degree of maximum FR M (ISO 8501-4)
  • Remove dust, blast media and loose materials
• Roughness - Surface profile Medium (G) (ISO 8503-2)

Application

• Mixing ratio - Base 45148 : Curing Agent 97820 (3 : 1 by volume) Stir well before use
• Thinner: Hempel's Thinner 08450. Cleaner: Hempel's Tool Cleaner 99610/Hempel's Thinner 08450
• Apply with brush, roller or airless spray (Nozzle pressure: 250 bar [3600 psi] Nozzle orifice: 0.019-0.023")
• Pot life @ 20°C: 2 hours (4 hours with brush)
• Dry film thickness: 80-175 micron (150 recommended)
• Wet film thickness: 130-290 micron (250 recommended)
• Coverage: 3.4m²/L - 7.5m²/L (4m²/L recommended)
• Surface temperature must be above 0°C during application and curing
• Optimal paint temperature for proper mixing, pumping and spraying is: 18-22°C
• To avoid condensation, apply on a clean and dry surface with a temperature that is at least 3°C above the dew point
• Touch dry in 4 hours @ 20°C, hard dry in 7 hours @ 20°C

If brush or roller application is used, more coats will be necessary to achieve the specified dry film thickness. Spray data are indicative and subject to adjustment. Pressure is for a material temperature of 20°C.

Product may be specified in another film thickness than indicated depending on purpose and area of use. This will alter spreading rate, drying and curing time and overcoating interval. For best performance, avoid excessive film thickness.
