Surface Preparation
Steelwork to be coated with Thermoguard Thermocoat WI must be primed with an anti-corrosion primer suited to the intended environment of the building and applied to the Manufacturer’s Specification. If your steel is bare, we can suggest after cleaning/preparation, mild steel can be primed with Thermoguard Steel Fire Paint Primer. If the steel has been galvanised then surfaces should be treated with Teamac Mordant Solution/ ‘T Wash before priming with Thermoguard Steel Fire Paint Primer.
Before applying Thermoguard Thermocoat WI, patch prime any damaged areas of primer and ensure the surface is dry, free from rust, oil, grease, dust and other contaminants. Existing decorative finishes must be removed.
System Application
To suitably primed steel, apply 1 coat of Thermocoat WI at 2.4m² per kilogram (325 microns WFT), allow to dry (minimum 10 hours at 20°C). Then apply 1 coat* of Thermoguard Flame Retardant Topcoat Eggshell or Gloss at 8m² per litre in the colour of your choice.
*1 coat of Thermoguard Flame Retardant Topcoat is normally sufficient but for dark contrasting colours 2 coats may be required.
