I am looking for a paint to use on bare concrete floors in a house that floods. We also have two woodburners. Would this paint be both flame retardant and water resistant? I'm guessing it's one or the other. Would it also be suitable for heavy footfall?
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Unfortunately this product is not suitable for application to a floor or an area that is trafficked.
Please provide the information below to [email protected] and we can assist with a recommendation.
Environment - interior or exterior Substrate – concrete, power floated, porous? Timber or metal If screed applied what is it, also provide TDS if possible

Question:
How long before you can recoat flame retardant eggshell?
Hello, Will this product provide 30-minute fire protection and not just spread of flame, and how to achieve it? Thank you
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, this is a topcoat for application as part of a system and will not achieve a level of fire protection on its own.
Assuming you are looking to achieve a level of fire protection on steel please provide the information below to [email protected]
- Level of fire protection required (i.e. 30, 60, 90min, etc.) - Each steel section dimension (i.e. 254x146x37 UB) - Quantity and length of each section (or overall meterage for each section) - Orientation (horizontal or vertical) - Number of sides to be painted (all sides, 3 sides, 1 flange, etc.) - Structural Steel Design Code (i.e. EuroCode, BS5950, BS476; Part 21, etc.) - Building type (i.e. office, domestic, storage, etc.) - Environment (internal, external, car park, chemical exposure, etc.) - Application on site or in shop Alternatively you can just forward us drawings, fabrication/cutting lists and we'll extract the information from them but in that instance we'd need some guidance as to what to allow for i.e. all steels on first floor, etc.

Question:
We have just opened up our fireplace and will be installing a Wood Burning Stove. My husband has rendered the fire recess with VITCAS Render, then has plastered with VITCAS Finishing Plaster. We want to keep it simple and paint the recess rather than tiling etc. Is this paint suitable?
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Thank you for the enquiry, please see our detailed blog post on this subject with product recommendations and application information.
I have a new extension to my barn conversion. It is clad with black shiplap type wood boarding. Building Control require one face (by a wooden fence) to be treated with fire retardant paint. What would you recommend ?
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Thank you for the enquiry, we have contacted you directly for more information.

Question:
I have had a log burner installed. What paint should I use around the log burner?
Can I use your paint to coat the existing ceiling plaster work to the cellar steps as this would save fireboarding etc Hope you can help, Many thanks Paul Jepson
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We wouldn't recommend Thermoguard Flame Retardant Topcoat for plasterboard/plastered surfaces. We can offer an alternative system if you can advise the level of fire protection required - i.e. Class 1, Class 0, 30min, 60min, etc?

Question: Can I use your paint products to fireproof my ceiling as I have not used fire retardant plaster board to encase the new steel for my loft extension. I have to have it looked at by a building inspector.
Thanks.
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
You can use our products to achieve BS Class 1, Class 0, 30min or 60min protection on standard plaster walls and ceilings but the product you are currently looking at is not the one to do it. Please contact our Technical Team on 0113 2455450 to discuss your requirements and they will provide a specification and quotation accordingly.

Question:
What paint should I use to paint an indoor brick fire wall?
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We recommend using Thermoguard Wallcoat Smoke & Flame Retardant Topcoat. This product isn't heat resistant and may discolour over time if continually subjected to high temperatures, but it is a much safer alternative to standard emulsion.

Question:
Can I use Thermoguard Flame Retardant Eggshell directly onto wood or does it need primer?

Thermoguard Flame Retardant Eggshell can be applied directly to wood but if you require any level of fire protection then Thermoguard Timbercoat must be applied first in accordance with it's instructions.
