Preparation
Ensure surface to be coated is clean, dry, sound and free from wax, grease or any other contamination. Remove any loose or flaking paint back to a firm edge. Previously painted surfaces in sound condition should be abraded and degreased prior to application of Blackfriar Anti-Slip Step Paint.
Blackfriar Anti-Slip Step Paint can be applied directly to bare concrete however other bare or new surfaces should be primed with the appropriate Blackfriar primer. New concrete must be left for 6 months to dry before painting. Caution should always be exercised when walking on steps, even after application of this product. Situations can arise where steps may be slippery: ie. After moss build-up, accumulation of wet leaves, heavy rainfall, liquid spillages, etc.
Application
Stir thoroughly prior to use with a broad stirrer. The product may be applied by brush or roller working the paint into any surface imperfections. Apply the material as evenly as possible to maintain an overall consistent finish. Two coats are recommended to give best protection.
Thinning
Maximum 10% white spirit.
Limitations
Do not use under cold (less than 5°C), damp or humid conditions. Not suitable for power-floated or granolithic concrete, asphalt, quarry tiles or surfaces suffering from rising damp. Slip resistance can be impaired by a build up of wet leaves, oil, ice or by ponding of water on the surface.
Drying Time
Touch dry in 4 hours. Recoat after 16 hours and within 3 days. Drying times are based on an ambient temperature of 20°C and 50% relative humidity. Lower temperatures or higher humidity will prolong the drying and overcoating times.
Clean Up
Remove as much product as possible from application equipment before washing with white spirit. Do not empty into drains or water courses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings.
