    Surface Preparation

Surfaces must be clean, sound and free of dirt, dust, grease, wax, loose paint or other surface contamination. Remove all existing mould and mildew before painting.

To effectively remove mould and mildew, use Blackfriar Fungicidal Wash. Timber at risk from decay or insect attack should be treated with Blackfriar Exterior Wood Preservative Gold Star Clear.

Very hard or glossy previously painted surfaces should be abraded and degreased. Before painting, fill all nail holes and gouges. Where necessary, spot prime knots and sap streaks with Zinsser B-I-N Primer-Sealer.

Abrade & degrease unweathered plastisol & powder coatings.

Allow new plaster/cement & stucco to cure 60-90 days before coating.

    Thoroughly degrease new galvanised steel.

WARNING! If you scrape, sand, or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE.

    For Composite Surfaces;

Always ensure that the surface has been prepared sufficiently, Zinsser Universal Degreaser & Cleaner is ideal for this. As composite surfaces tend to have a wax like finish we would also advise lightly abrading the surface area. Two coats are required, the first coat acts as the primer and the second seals and protects the system

    Application

    Stir well before using.

    questions Ellen on 2024-01-31 09:28:53
    Question:

Can this be used to paint my outdoor window frames? What will I need to do in prep?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Assuming the window frames are UPVC, that are clean, dry, sound, lightly abraded and prepared as detailed in the technical datasheet, this product can be applied in 2 coats to treat the window frames, the first coat will prime and the finish coat will seal and protect.

    questions Jessica on 2023-04-16 17:12:19
    Question:

Hi I am wanting to use this paint to paint my outdoor concrete window ceils would this paint be appropriate?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Yes this product could be used, we would recommend to apply three coats to areas that could be exposed to pooling water.

If the window sills are previously painted we would recommend to test on a small area for compatibility and adhesion prior to full application.

    questions Amy on 2023-02-09 10:14:02
    Question:

I have a new concrete retaining wall in my garden which I would like to paint anthracite grey. Will this paint work for that and do I need to prime the wall first?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Unforuntately this product would not be suitable for painting a retaining wall as the normally hold moisture which will cause the paint to fail.

Assuming the retaining wall is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we can recommend Zinsser Watertite.

This is available in white and a range of pastel shades.

questions Jillian Hunter  on 2022-10-24 19:44:53
    Question:

What is the area covered per litre?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

The coverage rate for this product is 10m² per litre per coat.

Preparation and application information is in the technical data sheet, this can be found in the data sheets tab on the product page.

questions Diane kelly on 2021-11-29 21:00:23
    Question:

Can I go over satin allcoat exterior with Matt as don’t like the shine

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Yes once the previously applied paint is fully cured, it is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet it could be over painted with Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Matt (Water based).

A matt finish is only available in the water based version, we would not recommend applying water based at this time of year due and it would be best to wait till spring.

It may be worth noting as the applied satin paint weathers the shine will reduce, which may end up being a finish you will be happy with.

questions Daniel Mortimer  on 2021-11-05 10:41:41
    Question:

I want to paint a garage door, using an electric fence sprayer will it have to be thinned down with thinners? If so what is the percentage? Or can I use it straight out of the tub?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

This product does not normally require to be thinned for application by brush, roller or airless spray, but can be thinned to a maximum of 10% with white spirit for conventional spray application.

We would recommend consulting the manufacturer of the electric fench sprayer to see if it is capable of spraying this paint.

questions Mrs Michelle Kilpatrick on 2021-09-15 16:49:32
    Question:

Can this product be used indoors? I am wanting to paint a wooden headboard. Regards

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

This product can be used indoors, but the Zinsser Allcoat Exterior (water based) would be a better option as it will have less odours.
