Envirograf RSM Rainscreen Cavity Barriers are especially designed for use with rainscreens and other types of cladding, made from impregnated intumescent fireproof sponge for a thinner barrier with a better fire rating. The barriers are easy to fix, with brackets already in place for use with nails, screws or split nails up to 12mm, and require no masks as they are non-fibrous. Use the cavity barriers in horizontal or vertical positions.
The barriers are available with ventilation options such as holes that seal up in the case of fire, or with a front-facing intumescent strip. The front-facing options allows ventilation in front of the barrier, with the face expanding in a fire to seal a gap of up to 50mm to prevent the spread of fire and smoke for a limited time.
Examples of use
Rainscreen cladding has become the preferred choice for most architects, particularly in high-rise buildings as it provides flexibility in design as well as superior weather protection against the elements. Using rainscreen cavity barriers helps overcome the challenge of providing a ventilated system that allows facades to function, allowing movement of air whilst ensuring that cavities have the fire protection that makes these high-rises as safe as traditional low-rise buildings.
Intumescent-impregnated/clad cavity barriers allow air flow and then seal up during a fire, preventing the spread of fire and smoke in a building and allowing more time for evacuation, as well as containing damage to ensure structural integrity.
This barrier comes supplied with 3 fixing brackets which can be simply screwed, nailed or spit nailed to
the internal wall (pre-drilled holes are suitable for up to 12mm size screws). The barrier can be easily cut with a sharp knife. If during installation you find wall imperfections, these can then be filled with Envirograf Intumescent Mastic (Product 58).
