Rust-Oleum 569/580 Quick Drying Metal Primer
Rust-Oleum 569/580 Quick Drying Metal Primer is a single pack quick drying metal primer for bare and lightly rusted metal. It should be used on new, blasted or slightly rusted steel surfaces. Depending on the exposure conditions Rust-Oleum 569/580 can be recoated with a variety of Rust-Oleum Systems assuring the appropriate protection; e.g. at heavy industrial exposures a two-coat system of 569/580 Quick Drying Metal Primer and Rust-Oleum 9100 High Performance Epoxy; at light industrial exposures Primer Rust-Oleum 1060/1080 High Build Metal Primer and/or a second coat followed by Rust-Oleum 7500 Alkythane.
Features & Benefits
- Recoatable after just 2 hours
- Durable anti-corrosion system in just one day
- Excellent flow
- Tintable in virtually any colour
- Increases life expectancy of the Alkythane topcoat
PLEASE NOTE: Colours in this product are intended for use to improve coverage and performance of the compatible topcoats ONLY. Mixed RAL colours in this product will NOT be accurate, they simply provide a suitable base for the same RAL colour topcoat to be applied.
Surface Preparation
Remove grease, oil and all other surface contaminations by alkaline or high pressure (steam) cleaning in combination with appropriate detergents. For optimum results remove rust, rust scale, mill scale and deteriorated coatings by abrasive blasting to Sa 2½ (ISO 8501-1 : 1988), blast profile max. 50 µm. If blasting is not possible remove loose rust and loose coatings by scraping and/or wire brushing to St 3 (ISO 8501-1 : 1988). Sand previous coatings which are in good condition to remove gloss and to roughen the surface slightly. The surface must be clean and dry during application.
Application Conditions
Temperature of air, substrate and coating material between 5 and 35°C and relative humidity below 85%. The substrate temperature must be at least 3°C above dew point.
