Product Description

Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3, the all-surface, all purpose, water-based primer for maintenance and decoration projects that require a stain-blocker and mould-resistant coating in one. Get great adhesion to glossy surfaces, ferrous metal substrates, glass and previously varnished woods without the need to sand or de-gloss previous coatings. And, Bulls Eye 1-2-3 is recoatable after just one hour – making it ideal for most workplace maintenance and repair tasks.

Every maintenance and project manager should have Bulls Eye 1-2-3 to hand to; cover ink and water stains quickly; hide offensive graffiti and marker pens on walls with one coating; get rid of nicotine, smoke stains and smoke damage, whilst also covering nasty, stagnant odours; bind chalky exterior surfaces, like aluminium, vinyl, or previously painted and decorated siding or trims; protection of surfaces from blistering, peeling, cracking or chipping, and keeping the topcoat looking great for years ahead; sealing porous surfaces and delivering a rust-inhibitive coating to iron railings, steel doors, metal panels, piping, and galvanised guttering.

Bulls Eye 1-2-3 is an all in one primer, sealer and stain killer for internal and external substrates, structures and surfaces, including:

  • Painting over gloss paint
  • Glass
  • High humidity areas – kitchens, bathrooms and laundry facilities
  • Walls and ceilings
  • Metal doors
  • Masonry
  • Fibreglass
  • Hardboard
  • PVC
  • Weathered wood
  • Pressure treated lumber
  • T1-11 siding
  • Painting over black paint and other dark colour, previously decorated surfaces

For walls and ceilings that have previously been decorated in very dark colours, like a photographic dark-room, Bulls Eye 1-2-3 is fantastic at covering and blocking that old décor so that they won’t show through the new paint topcoat. Using this primer will allow you to cover dark surfaces with light and subtle shades of paint, reinvigorating and adding air to office spaces, renovated workplaces and storage facilities – including cold and dark basements, attics, and stairwells.

This is a go-to product for builders and contracted decorating tradesmen to seal porous surfaces on new builds and renovated building. Drywall, builder’s flat, wood, plaster, masonry and brick are no match against Bulls Eye 1-2-3. It is also ideal for high pH surfaces, like concrete, stucco, plaster and fast set joint and textile compounds.

Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 can be applied directly to new or previously treated exterior woods, including cedar, fire, pine, plywood, pressure treated woods and redwood.

I need to paint over some high gloss cream paint on wood furniture with a brilliant white dulux satinwood (water based) Will Zinsser 123 be suitable as an undercoat? I am trying to avoid having to sand all the furniture.

Zinsser B-I-N would have better adhesion, clean the surfaces to paint with Zinsser Universal Degreaser & Cleaner followed by a wipe over with a damp cloth to remove any residue of the cleaner then apply a coat of Zinsser B-I-N.

questions Sally Tyler  on 10/08/2018

I have an old stone house that has been neglected for 5 years and rainwater has seeped under the floor to be sucked up by thick interior walls. The ingress of water has been stopped but time is needed for the walls to dry out completely. Even months of >30 deg days has not completely dried the walls.(this is in south of France) I have removed the ancient damp wallpaper to reveal awful dark mish mash of blacks and grey paint on the smooth finished stone surface. I want to paint over it while it dries, before repapering. Can I use acrylic emulsion? Would that allow the water in the wall to eventually evaporate?

There is no simple solution for this job. Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 would not be suitable. Something like Zinsser Watertite can be applied to a damp surfaces however this will seal in residual moisture, it will not allow the wall to dry out, but you can wallpaper over the Watertite at a later date. Zinsser Grade 1 is a breathable stain block primer and finish all in one. If the moisture content of the walls is 12% or less Grade 1 will hold back stains and allow the walls to breathe. It can be mixed to a wide range of pastel to medium shade colours and therefore can be left as the final finish coat or you can wallpaper over the product if required.

Question: I need a paint that can seal new plastered wall around an inset stove. The wall heats up to about 70C.

I want to paint cherry wood kitchen doors. Do I rub down doors before I apply Zinnser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus? I was going to use Chalk paint in an ivory cream colour on top of this so should I purchase your white colour as a base?

Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus does not require surfaces to be sanded prior to application only for them to be clean and dry, but if you wish to lightly sand the surfaces this would only help adhesion. Yes, white would be a good choice as a base for your chalk paint.

Hello. We have a classic gloss finished mahogany fireplace surround which we would like to paint but are very apprehensive about it. Is Zinser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 ideal for this or do you recommend something better?

Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 is excellent at adhering to smooth, glossy surfaces prior to painting so it would make an ideal primer for you to apply you're own finish over. Just ensure the surfaces you are painting around the fire don't get too hot (above 60-70°C).
