Zinsser Peel Stop is a clear, flexible, binding primer designed for problem interior / exterior painted surfaces that exhibit chalking, alligatoring, cracking, flaking, and peeling.
Even after painted surfaces have been scraped and sanded, tiny cracks and gaps remain under the edges of old paint. Peel Stop seeps into these spaces and ‘glues’ them down, forming a tight bond that helps stop future peeling.
The special formula of Peel Stop penetrates and binds chalky residues. Applied over cracked or crazed surfaces, Peel Stop acts as a flexible bridging primer to seal face crazing and prevent the finish coat from cracking, providing a sound surface for primer and paint.
Please note, tinting is not recommended.
Interior and exterior surfaces, including:
7.4 to 9.8m2 per 1L. Spread rate will vary according to the porosity of the surface and method of application.
Thorough surface preparation is very important.
Surfaces should be clean, dry, sound and free of dust, dirt, grime, grease, oil, wax, mould, wallpaper adhesive, or any contamination that may interfere with adhesion. If unsure, always wash surface with an appropriate cleaning solution or solvent.
Surfaces must be thoroughly scraped and sanded to remove all poorly adhered paint.
Lightly sand exposed wood to remove loose fragments.
Dull glossy painted areas with sandpaper.
Spot prime areas where paint has been scraped or sanded off.
In most cases only one coat is necessary. Excessively porous surfaces may require a second coat.
Shake or stir well before using. Do not thin.
Apply with brush and/or roller or airless sprayer. Back brush or roll to work Peel Stop into cracks and edges of old paint.
Proper application of Peel Stop will dry to a slight sheen.
Apply a second coat if dull spots appear.
For best brushing performance use quality synthetic bristle brushes. Natural bristle brushes are not recommended for use with the product.
Apply when air and surface temperatures are between 10° and 32°C and humidity is less than 80%.
Lower temperatures and higher humidity can prolong drying time.
If conditions do not permit prompt drying, allow Peel Stop to dry overnight before priming or painting.
Do not apply Peel Stop if rain is expected and primer or topcoat cannot be applied before rain occurs.
At normal temperatures Peel Stop will dry in one hour and may be primed or painted in two hours.
Note: Peel Stop that has seeped under the edges of remaining paint layers or has filled minute cracks may take longer to dry than material on exposed surfaces.
Any water based or alkyd primer or paint may be used over Peel Stop.
As Peel Stop is clear, Zinsser recommend priming with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 or Zinsser Cover-Stain, followed by a coat of quality water based or alkyd paint to assure optimum results.
Clean fresh spills and drips with a wet cloth or rag.
Wash application tools in warm, soapy water and rinse well.
Follow manufacturer’s instructions when cleaning spray equipment.
Use Zinsser BIN Brush Cleaner to remove dried paint from bristle.
